Mackenzie is a Pennsylvania transplant, where she grew up and attended college before relocating to Maryland. Her passion for education stems from nearly a decade of tutoring experience, during which she has worked with students in grades three and up to achieve short- and long-term educational goals while also focusing on their personal achievement and interpersonal growth. Prior to joining the PrepMatters team, she spent a year working in international developmental finance before transitioning back to education.

Mackenzie received her B.A. in English and History, with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies and a dual concentration in Writing and Anthropology, from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre. While there, she worked with college students on drafting and proofreading their writing, tutored in Anthropology, and assisted in teaching two semesters of an introduction to literature course. She also led two student-run publications at Wilkes, the Inkwell Quarterly and the Manuscript. She was also the president (and, previously, the vice president) of the university’s Sigma Tau Delta chapter, the international English Honors Society. She won an award for an original short fiction story, “Sentiment,” which was presented at the 2019 Sigma Tau Delta convention. Mackenzie was also a member of Phi Alpha Theta, the national History Honors Society, volunteered with veterans both on campus and in the local community, and worked for two years as an Admissions Ambassador where she helped prospective students get a feel for campus life and created lasting introductions with professors, mentors, and other students.

With hands-on experience working with both parents and students to accomplish common goals, Mackenzie is well aware of the fact that a student’s success academically is linked to a nurturing learning environment, and she strives to create the best ecosystem tailored to each individual student’s needs. When she’s not helping place students with the right tutors to meet their educational and personal growth goals, she can be found working on her novel series, drinking copious amounts of coffee, and spending time with her partner, Alec, and their two pets, Winnie and Baxter.
