Lauren Yu is a math-enthusiast and musician. She graduated from the University of Rochester and the Eastman School of Music with a BA in Math and a BM in Bassoon Performance/Music Education. Lauren participated in a program, “Take 5,” at the University of Rochester in ancient studies and archaeology before continuing her education at Yale University where she earned an MM in Bassoon Performance.
Following the completion of her master’s degree, Lauren discovered her passion for tutoring. Since 2013, Lauren has taught SAT/ACT test prep and subject tutoring to students in grades K-12, and the seemingly temporary job turned into an unexpected career path. She is deeply invested in her students and brings energy and creativity to each lesson.
In addition to solving math problems, Lauren enjoys biking, traveling, playing with her bassoon quartet and spending time with her husband and two cats (Tyrion and Samwell).
One of the things that excites me most about math is that there is an infinite number of ways to arrive at the same solution. I view teaching in the same light – that there is an infinite number of ways to approach the same topic – and that is what makes each one-on-one tutoring experience unique and engaging. My goal is to instill a sense of confidence in each of my students; this is accomplished through hard work, measurable progress and by breaking down the mystifying standardized tests into something familiar and conquerable. By the end of our sessions, I hope my students feel a great sense of accomplishment and a renewed enthusiasm for learning.
