ISEE Test Prep and Tutoring

Flexible ISEE Test Tutoring That Gets Results

Gaining admission to top private schools in the area is a significant goal, and the Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE) is often a key part of that journey. It’s more than just another test. It’s an opportunity for students to showcase their abilities. At PrepMatters, we provide trusted, personalized ISEE test prep designed to help students navigate this challenge confidently. Our dedicated 1-on-1 ISEE tutoring, combined with our deep understanding of the admissions landscape, puts you in a great position to succeed.

What is the ISEE Test and How Is It Unique?

The Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE) is also an almost three-hour grade long, grade-banded test with three levels: Lower Level (completed grades 4–5), Middle Level (completed grades 6–7), and Upper Level (completed grades 8–11). The ISEE is a product of Educational Records Bureau, the creators of the “ERBs” – the standardized tests many students have seen in school – so it often seems more straightforward to students than does the SSAT. The ISEE, however, is a more speeded test, so students have less time per question. We ensure our students have the content mastery they’ll need to be successful and equip them with strategies to manage the clock and themselves so they can do their best on test day.

The PrepMatters Difference: Your Dedicated ISEE Tutor

Effective preparation, especially for younger students, thrives on consistency and connection. That’s why we match our ISEE students with a single tutor who can understand them more completely as learners and help with each section of the test.

This consistent, relationship-based ISEE tutoring approach allows your tutor to truly understand your child’s unique learning style, academic strengths, and areas for growth. They become a trusted mentor that adapts their teaching methods and providing steady encouragement throughout the ISEE training process. Our tutors are experienced in working across all ISEE levels and tailoring strategies for any learner.

Our Proven ISEE Training Method & Materials

A structured approach combined with the right resources makes all the difference. All students have access to our proprietary 300-page ISEE Preparation Workbook that students use to hone their skills so that they can answer questions quickly enough to complete the sections and maximize their scores. They will also be given our Vocabulary Workbook, which will help them master 300 high-frequency ISEE vocabulary words through over 100 pages of drills and exercises. We use officially released practice tests whenever possible and can advise you on other third-party materials and platforms that might be helpful.

Beyond these excellent materials, our ISEE training incorporates weekly diagnostic exercises and regular feedback sessions. We meticulously track progress not just on accuracy but also on time management for each section, ensuring students build the speed and endurance needed for this fast-paced test. This comprehensive ISEE test prep approach ensures thorough preparation for each section including:

  • Quantitative reasoning
  • ISEE reading comprehension
  • Verbal reasoning
  • ISEE math
  • Essay writing

Navigating ISEE Logistics: Dates, Formats & Strategy

Planning when and how to take the ISEE is an important part of the process.

Like the SSAT, the ISEE is also offered in both paper and computer-based formats, so we’ll work with you to plan a testing calendar that works with your schedule and your student’s needs.

Here’s what to consider:

  • Testing Frequency: Unlike the SSAT, students can only take the ISEE once per testing season. The seasons are Fall (August-November), Winter (December-March), and Spring/Summer (April-July). This limited opportunity makes strategic scheduling crucial.
  • Choosing a Date: Consider school application deadlines (often Jan/Feb). Many students aim to test in the Fall (Oct/Nov) and potentially again in the Winter (Dec/Jan) if needed. Register early, as spots fill up. Find official dates and registration info on the ERB website (External Link: erblearn.org).
  • Format Choice: Both paper and computer-based tests are available. We can discuss which format might better suit your child’s testing style during your consultation.
