What is the GMAT?

The GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is a standardized exam used by MBA and business graduate programs to assess candidates’ readiness. It evaluates skills in quantitative reasoning, verbal reasoning, and data analysis.

The updated GMAT Focus Edition is 2 hours and 15 minutes long and includes three sections:

  • Quantitative Reasoning
  • Verbal Reasoning
  • Data Insights

This streamlined version removes the essay and focuses on core problem-solving and analytical skills. Scores range from 205 to 805, and a strong GMAT score can significantly boost your admissions profile.

Up-to-Date Expertise on the New GMAT Focus Edition

The GMAT changed significantly in 2023, and our tutoring reflects that. Our highly-trained tutors are ready to prepare students for each of the three sections of the recently revised GMAT Focus exam. We’ve adapted our curriculum to match the format changes, updated timing, and new scoring scale, so you’re not wasting time on outdated material or inefficient strategies.

Mastering the Three GMAT Focus Sections

Our GMAT tutoring covers all three test sections in depth, with strategies tailored to how each section challenges students differently.

Quantitative Reasoning

21 Questions – 45 Minutes

This section isn’t just about math. It’s about thinking mathematically under pressure. We help students:

  • Strengthen their fluency in arithmetic and algebra.
  • Target high-value topics like probability, work/rate problems, and mixture sets.
  • Learn shortcuts and logic-based approaches to save time without losing accuracy.

Whether math is your strong suit or your weak spot, we’ll build a plan that sharpens your skills and raises your ceiling.

Verbal Reasoning

23 Questions – 45 Minutes

Here, success depends on reading for argument and precision, not just speed. We teach:

  • How to break down complex passages quickly and extract what matters.
  • A structured approach to tackling critical reasoning questions with logic.
  • Strategies for avoiding common verbal “trap” answers that derail even strong readers.

We’ll show you how to balance efficiency and accuracy so you can work confidently in a timed setting.

Data Insights

12 Questions – 45 Minutes

Unique to the GMAT Focus, this section tests how you interpret data in context. Our tutoring includes:

  • Training for data sufficiency and multi-source reasoning questions.
  • Techniques for table analysis and graphics interpretation.
  • Practice across every question format so you’re never caught off guard.

If you’ve never seen a question like this before, don’t worry! We’ll make them second nature.

FAQs about the GMAT

It’s a challenging exam, especially under time pressure. Success comes from a mix of strategy, timed practice, and content review. We help you build that foundation.

That depends on where you’re applying. A 645 on the GMAT Focus is roughly equivalent to a 700 on the old GMAT. For top programs, you’ll likely need to score in the top 10–15% of test-takers.

GMAT scores are valid for five years, which gives you some flexibility in your admissions timeline.

Most MBA programs accept both, but the GMAT is still preferred by many business school, especially if you’re applying to more competitive programs. If you’re unsure, we can help you decide.
