PrepMatters offers one on one tutoring services because we know success in school isn’t always about working harder – it can be about working smarter.
There is no math gene. Really there isn’t. Anyone who’s willing to do some work can get better at math. Our group of math geeks just love working with kids to help better understand the guiding principles that underlie the problems they’re solving and not just showing “how to do the problem.” Once students understand those principles, they must be solidified through repetition and that’s where the hard work comes in. But there’s nothing like the joy of understanding and getting the right answers to make that hard work more fun!
Effectively learning science is about two things: knowing how to ask the right questions and knowing how to organize the answers to those questions. Our tutors know when to focus on each with their students. Some students learn best in a Socratic fashion, with the tutor providing the right questions to nudge understanding while modeling the questions students need to ask themselves as they work through problems. Other students are more comfortable with an organized framework presented to them first and thrive when they can see all the connections laid out in front of them.
Strong critical reading and writing skills are the cornerstones of success in high school and college – and beyond! The best thing students can do to improve these skills is practice them every single day. But if they need a boost, our team of word nerds can work with students to identify and develop their talent for language. Deciphering Shakespeare or Salinger, expressing ideas clearly and effectively, or brushing up on the nitty-gritty of grammar – all are possible with patience and a desire to improve.
Educational planning is essential to academic success; however, too many students and parents are at a loss for a place to start. Our guide offers a beginning—at any point in the process. Get the guide here.
We regularly support area parents and students by events, covering topics from accomodations and interviews to college essays and the admissions landscape. Bookmark our events page, and sign up for our mailing list so you don’t miss any in the future.
