Experienced Essay Specialist (Bethesda, Tenleytown or McLean)

PrepMatters is the premier source in the Washington metro area for one-on-one test preparation, tutoring, and educational planning. We are looking for reliable and highly skilled writers to join our team as a seasonal, part-time Essay Specialist. Training will begin in May in preparation for application season and will cover essay development, application review, and essay development presentations for large and small groups.
Our Essay Specialists work one-on-one with high school students on their college application essays. They guide students through the essay writing process and provide detailed, timely essay review and editing services. The seasoned candidate will have strong writing and editing skills; an ability to engage in detail-oriented work for extensive periods of time; and the ability to connect with teenagers and their parents in a professional manner. Essay Specialists also help students review applications prior to submission. There is also opportunity to engage in mock interviews, resume development, and the presentation of the essay development process to small groups.
The candidate must be available to work some evenings and at least one weekend day. A commitment is required for one season (May through December/January). Preference will be given to candidates with experience in an educational environment. The hourly rate is based on writing skills and experience. Our offices are four blocks from Bethesda metro, two blocks from Tenley metro, and in downtown McLean.

Experienced Test Prep Tutor (Bethesda, Tenleytown or McLean)
We are looking for bright, dynamic people to join our team. In addition to the SAT, we tutor for the whole alphabet of tests: SAT Subject Tests, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, GRE, GMAT, & LSAT exams. We also work with many students seeking help for their academic courses. Part-time test preparation and academic tutors start at $30-$60 an hour depending on experience. We are looking for folks who would like to work at least 10 hours per week during busy seasons.
PrepMatters tutors can schedule meetings on weekdays or weekends (or mornings if you’re so constituted). Ideal candidates will be comfortable working in a dynamic environment with a friendly, vibrant staff.
- have a bachelor’s degree
- have at least two years of test preparation tutoring experience
- be able to teach all areas of the SAT and/or ACT (math, reading and writing)
- have an honest expectation that they will be able to work for at least two years with PrepMatters.

Educational Planning Associate (Bethesda)
We are looking for a reliable and highly organized professional to join our team as a full-time educational planning associate at our Bethesda, MD location. The position starts immediately.
About the position:
Working in concert with the managing associate, the educational planning associate provides administrative and client liaison support for our professional educational counselors, who guide students and their parents through the complicated and sometimes stressful college planning and application process. Daily responsibilities include fielding questions on services, scheduling appointments, and making certain that every detail of the client records are accurate and complete.
Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30/9:00 a.m. to 5:00/5:30 p.m. Metro accessible. $18/hour/depending on experience.
