College Admission Tests

The college admissions process in general, and taking the SAT or ACT in particular, can be one of the first real adult hurdles in a high school student’s life, with consequences that seemingly stretch out years into the future. PrepMatters pairs students with tutors who not only understand the SAT and ACT, but also understand that the way in which students handle this challenge can be more important than their score ever could. These are not IQ or intelligence tests but tests of acquired skills. Our tutors identify and remediate students’ weaknesses in content knowledge, equip them with the test-taking skills they’ll need on exam day, and motivate them to work to reach their potential, no matter what that may be.

Secondary School Admission Tests

The secondary schools admissions process can be daunting. While the test itself is only one part of the process, it can be an important component of the student’s admissions profile. The three most common secondary school tests, the SSAT, the ISEE, and the HSPT employ a variety of tactics and question types designed to sort students for the benefit of high school admissions officers. Our tutors work to help students and their families understand these tests, select the best test where possible, and maximize student performance. Students in our tutoring program will work on verbal and mathematical content as well as test taking strategy. While our tutors work with students to refine their personal testing strategy and skills, our educational counselors can provide help with school selection, essays, and interview preparation. Together, our team of professionals can help lower the stress and uncertainty of the admissions process.

Graduate Admission Tests

Our tutors, many of whom have advanced degrees themselves, enjoy working one on one with college students looking to further their education in business, graduate, law or medical school. Graduate school admissions tests typically require not only greater analytical skill but also better time management on the part of the busy college students who take them. Learning the right problem solving techniques is essential, but so is spending time to redevelop atrophied skills, be they math for a history major or grammar and vocabulary for an engineer. The well-prepared student will also familiarize herself with the online format of these tests as well as their fast-pace, often missing in the world of college assessments.
