Bio

Born and raised in Washington DC, a Sidwell Friends School graduate, Sanam received an interfaculty degree (Bachelors in Arts & Science) in Economics, Math, and Computer Science from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Sanam began tutoring French in high school after returning from one year of immersion study in Rennes, France. Her subjects quickly grew to include math and science. Between high school and university, she spent five months teaching at an international school in Dakar, Senegal, then worked at a French summer camp in Washington, DC. In university, Sanam spent three years working for the McGill Tutorial Service, assisting undergraduate students in a variety of math and economics courses. When Sanam is not planning her next foreign adventure or working in Arlington as a junior software developer, she is likely to be playing or planning soccer.

Philosophy

Going through material well is much more important than going through material quickly. Focus not only on how to solve problems but why, because there are often several ways to ask and to solve the same question. In the subjects I focus on, concepts build on each other, so understanding the fundamentals is important; memorizing formulas is secondary and will come as you practice. Contrary to popular belief, whether or not you’re a math person was not decided at birth. We can work on it, trust me and trust yourself.
