Nathan grew up in central Washington and moved to sunny Los Angeles to attend college. He received two bachelor’s degrees, one from the University of Southern California in aerospace engineering and one from Biola University in physical science. He then attended Caltech where he served as a teaching assistant for chemistry and received a master’s degree in environmental science and engineering. Nathan began tutoring while in college and has helped high school, college, and graduate students in a variety of subjects for the last six years. In his free time, he enjoys training his dog Sophie, playing golf, and watching good (and really bad) action movies.
My tutoring philosophy involves making myself obsolete; I try to enable the student to ask the right questions and solve the problems without me. My job is one of a guide, seeking to help students become skilled in the subject matter and also confident in their abilities. Every session should be a positive experience, and students should leave feeling more confident than when they arrived. This means the student always feels comfortable asking questions, and in my sessions there are no dumb questions! Tests can be scary, but it’s important to remember that with proper guidance any student can succeed.
