Theresa Hale has an adventurous spirit and a fondness for living in cities that sound like made-up places. Although born and raised in Williamsburg, Virginia, she always dreamed of exploring the globe and experiencing different cultures and people. This desire inspired her to attend Kalamazoo College in Michigan where she participated in its renowned study abroad programs. As an undergrad, Theresa studied French, psychology, and sociology and participated in a six-month study abroad program in Dakar, Senegal. After graduating, she lived and worked in Wingles, France, as an English teaching assistant.
After her time abroad, Theresa relocated to Maryland to pursue her MA in International Education Policy from University of Maryland and graduated in May 2017. At Maryland, she worked at the Career Center as a career advisor, counseling students on writing resumes, crafting cover letters, completing graduate school applications and navigating the internship search process. In addition, as part of her program at Maryland, Theresa traveled to Cuba for a week-long research project focusing on higher education in Cuba. Both her work experience and international perspective make Theresa a great addition to the PrepMatters essay specialist team.
In her free time, Theresa enjoys yoga, meditating, spending time outdoors, and experimenting in the kitchen.
Because of my international experience, I strongly value the process of reflecting on memorable experiences, especially through writing. Personally, I find the writing process to be one of the most effective forms of self-reflection. By putting pen to paper, I have been able to learn important lessons from the formative experiences in my life – lessons that have played a key part in shaping my worldview and vision for the future. I look forward to guiding students through a similarly reflective writing process, helping them learn more about themselves and their goals for the future as they convey through writing an impression of their very best selves.
